A pioneering digital future for a leading financial derivatives dealer

The Brief


Founded in 1989, CMC Markets is a leading provider of spread betting, contracts for difference (CFDs) and foreign exchange (forex) across world markets.  The company has hubs in London, Sydney and Singapore and a further 11 offices internationally, with revenues of £186 million.  We were tasked with creating a digital vision for the brand and re-developing their retail website, to not only take a leap forward for the industry, but be pioneering across all sectors.

The Approach

CMC needed a site that met the needs of their diverse customer base, giving them instant access to the information that matters to them in a format that was easily digestible.  They needed a site to match their industry-leading Next Gen Trading Platform which showcased the brand as leaders in the market.

This insight informed the vision for the site; we began with our Hive™ workshop to work collaboratively with CMC’s internal stakeholders, creating a new site that would not only align with their status and heritage within the marketplace but would also offer their clients and prospects an unrivaled experience.

The Work


Using BIO’s proprietary Hive™ workshop process, we were able to workshop ideas and inspiration to really get under the skin of what makes CMC and their clients tick.  We co-created personas and user stories, ranked epics and mapped them to user journeys, devised functionality and content ideas and developed a design direction and digital vision for the site incredibly quickly.

This enabled us to move forward with rapid prototyping of UX and designs to ultimately deliver the whole project including front-end build in just three months.
